"Caring Beyond the Box"

Having great leadership is key to the success of any organization and a non-profit is no different. Our board molds the future and direction of SOS so having a board that understands our mission, and the way we are unique, was crucial to our development. Our board members attend events in the community to represent SOS, help to create policies that will offer a successful long-term vision for us, and give of their time and talent in their own unique ways.

TERESA NELSON, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR/FOUNDER:

teresanelsonBorn and raised in Fort Worth, Texas an only child of an Army Father in the 101st Airborne. Teresa’s love and respect for our country and military run very deep. She graduated from Texas Wesleyan University with a BBA in Economics/Finance and after years in the corporate world, opened her own company, Teresa’s Treasures Gourmet Gifts in 2000. Serving on many boards and committees over the years, Teresa has a profound knowledge of leadership skills and a vision for excellence. In June 2011, she founded Support Our Soldiers to care for our military at home and abroad with support they might not otherwise receive. The soldiers are her “kids” and she loves them all.
Live theater, music, traveling, and photography are all hobbies she enjoys and she is married to Dennis Nelson of Fort Worth. They have three “cat”-children of their own.

DENNIS NELSON, BOARD MEMBER:

dennisnelsonDennis Nelson was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas and graduated from Paschal High school. He pursued a career in transportation and drove semi-trucks across country for a number of years before returning to Fort Worth where he settled and met his wife, Teresa of now 15 years. He now works part-time for her company Teresa ‘s Treasures as a delivery driver and full-time as a driver for Mrs. Bairds/Bimbo Bakeries. His Father was in the Marines and his step-Father in the Air Force so his respect and admiration for the military runs deep. In his spare time, he loves building and repairing computers, studying European history, architecture, and attending live theatre and music performances. His favorite quote is “ We may not can fix the world, but we can sure leave it a little better than the way we found it” and that’s what he hopes to do for our troops serving home and abroad.

GARY BLAKE, BOARD MEMBER

Gary-Blake-2016 Gary Blake is the Owner and founder of Creative Solutions in Healthcare, a company that operates over 50 skilled nursing and assisted living facilities in Texas. He is a man who believes in the joy of caring for others. He cares about the elderly, the sick and the disabled and he helps them receive the care they need, respecting their lives and giving them the dignity they deserve. He takes pride in building a business that gives back to those who have given to others.

Support Our Soldiers does what most Non-For-Profit Organizations cannot or refuse to do… “Respond to individual needs of our Soldiers”. Providing the basic of needs the men and women who risk their lives is so important and so worthy of our time, attention and talents. He is honored to serve our Board in any capacity he can and enjoys the opportunity to impact the lives of our heroes.

TRACEY WALKER, BOARD MEMBER

tracey-walkerTracey Walker lives in Burleson and graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor of Business Administration. In 1991, she married Scott and they have 2 boys, Blake and Reese. She worked in the business world before having children and then chose to be a stay-at-home. Tracey teaches meal planning for New Journeys Christian Women’s Job Corp, is active in her church at FBC Burleson and works part-time for Avcor Healthcare Products.

She enjoys being involved with SOS and connecting the community with the military. Tracey believes serving and providing for the basic needs of SOS is the least we can do for the soldiers who risk their lives for our families. She doesn’t want anyone deployed to feel he or she has been forgotten by those of us safe in our homes. For what a soldier gives up to serve his or her country, she wants her service and support to make a difference.
